This school in London had an area of the playing field near to the boundary of the field which was shaded by trees resulting in sparse grass cover which was not used by pupils and had been used for storage of outdoor sporting and athletic equipment. The school had a requirement for an outdoor athletic long jump pit and our recommendation was to place the track in this location using an artificial grass track which would not be affected by the shade for the adjacent trees. Initial works required were to excavate the existing site and the removal of some trees to accommodate the long jump track and pit. Once this was carried out the artificial grass track was laid and the surrounding area had artificial grass laid in green to merge in with the existing grass area of the field. The long jump pit edging was laid prior to the installation of the sand pit. A bespoke sandpit cover was also manufactured to ensure the pit could be covered to prevent water saturation in wet weather and to prevent debris from falling into the pit. Our team constructed the athletic area on time and the school were delighted with the outcome. What was once an unattractive area of the playing field has now become a highly popular sports area for pupils of all ages.
